About
In 2010, Shakespeare Napa Valley (SNV), part of the Napa Valley College District Auxiliary Services Foundation, partnered with the City of Napa to bring a production of The Taming of the Shrew downtown Napa’s Veteran’s Park. Since the inaugural production in 2010, SNV has produced at least one full-scale production each year, attracting over 30,000 audience members.
Mission Statement
Shakespeare Napa Valley engages and inspires our diverse community by creating lively and innovative productions of Shakespeare’s plays.
Ways that Shakespeare Napa Valley has already practiced “green” theatre
Shakespeare Napa Valley has been using recycled materials since it's inception. The first set was contructed of recycled cardboard. We are in the process of implementing "green" practices through a costume, props and scenery initiative as well as adhering to recycling and composting policies at our various performance sites.
Ways that Shakespeare Napa Valley has already used their productions to highlight local or global ecological issues
The SNV 2014 production of As You Like it was produced directly after the 2014 earthquake and became an exploration of man vs. nature. Our spring 2016 production of Pericles explored global issues of sex trafficking, the media and the effects of global warming in a modern context. A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was inspired by the Napa Valley Suscal Tribal Council, was produced in the fall of 2016.
What are Shakespeare Napa Valley's eco-theatrical goals and aspirations for the future? What do they want to work on and achieve? What kind of help and advice would be useful to them?
Our goal is to build an outdoor amphitheater utilizing eco practices. In the meantime we plan to document our efforts in becoming more green.
