Mission Statement
"The mission of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival is to produce energetic new interpretations of theatrical works, engaging audience and artist in an impassioned expiration of the human condition, with the artistry and humanity of ht e Shakespearean canon as our constant touchstone."
Ways that Illinois Shakespeare Festival has already practiced “green” theatre
"Our efforts to date have lacked focus and have been piecemeal. There have been efforts to recycle wood products used in scenery and we use a great deal of stock items in our costume, prop and scenery shops. We partnered with the Epiphany Hospitality Group recently to be our season sponsor and create dinner and show packages. This organization is a farm to table operation that emphasizes sustainable farming practices."
Ways that Illinois Shakespeare Festival has already used their productions to highlight local or global ecological issues
"We have not been active in this area of creating a greener theatre company. We are in communication with our Office of Sustainability at Illinois State University to step up our effort in all of these areas."
What are Illinois Shakespeare Festival's eco-theatrical goals and aspirations for the future? What do they want to work on and achieve? What kind of help and advice would be useful to them?
"Our goal for the 2020 season is to move to serving all of our beverages in aluminum cans and provide water free of charge. We are planning to install a water bottle re-fill station on the grounds. We are exploring options for installing a bike rack near the theatre, something that currently does not exist."
