"We are HamletScenen, a theatre based in Elsinore at Kronborg Castle, Denmark. The theatre was established in 2008 by The Cultural Ministry and Elsinore Municipality and has a professional team and Board of Governors."

Ways that HamletScenen has already practiced “green” theatre
"HamletScenen only go abroad when absolutely needed. This year, we have had none so far. We always reuse costumes and often borrow or renting from other theatres. Our stage is put together every year using the same materials as last year and the year before that. We also reuse all props and set design, that we can. This year, we are reusing a set design and a puppetry set design, that we have not used for quite some years now. Our print is down to a minimum and we use recycled paper. In Denmark, everyone drinks tap water, so no water refill station is needed. When we sell water to our audience, it is never in plastic bottles, but in recycled cardboard. Our picnic is from a social-economic café next to us called Kadetten, where they only serve organic food. Some of our staff takes public transport instead of driving a car."
Ways that HamletScenen has already used their productions to highlight local or global ecological issues
"This is an area where we can progress. At the theatre we work with an ideology where all people are included: it means that we want everyone to be heard. It is important to always talk with the local community, and we do all the time in everything that we do. Also, we are members of a big community network, that meets every 3 months, where we discuss the environment and what we can do to lift the co-working."
What are HamletScenen's eco-theatrical goals and aspirations for the future? What do they want to work on and achieve? What kind of help and advice would be useful to them?
"We at HamletScenen want to do more, but we need inspiration for getting even further, hence signing up in this community helps awareness and how to get even further. The goal is to be as environmental as possible and working closely together with the municipality in order to show a great example on how to improve and where to improve. Also to use reused materials in productions where possible and make all employees aware of their own impact and footprint. In Denmark more companies are getting greener, so it will also be easier for us as a theatre to chose suppliers with a green attitude. Another way to become more green is to print less."
